Laser Tattoo Removal

A tattoo may have seemed to be a good idea at some time but now if you are fed up of it or want to change to some new tattoo designs, you need to remove it first. The VIP Laser Clinic provides the latest laser tattoo removal technique for making your dreams come true.

Our advanced laser apparatuses can remove most tattoos, but as they vary in colour, density and size, some respond to treatment better than others.
A consultation with our medical laser specialist will determine your suitability for treatment and realistically determine the expected results.

Why not call us for booking an appointment for a consultation and treatment?

  • Can any type of tattoo be treated successfully?
Most tattoos can be removed effectively with the help of laser treatment. Yet, results cannot be guaranteed. Tattoos vary greatly in colour, density and size, and some respond easily to treatment whilst others don't. Black tattoos are normally most easily removed by laser treatment. However, some colours are very difficult to treat, e.g. white, yellow, orange, some reds and green tattoos containing fluorescent or acrylic dyes.

  • How many sessions of laser treatment are required for tattoo removal?
7 -10 treatment sessions are normally required at regular intervals in order to remove tattoos. To ensure optimum success, an interval of 2-3 months is normal between treatment sessions.

  • Is tattoo removal by laser painful?
The treatment can give a 'stinging' sensation which can be diminished or eliminated by applying a local anaesthetic gel to sensitive areas or simply to help you feel more relaxed.

  • What immediate changes can I expect to see on my skin after laser treatment of my tattoo?
First of all, you will see that the color of the tattoo has faded immediately after the laser treatment and in its place the treated skin zone has whitened and got swollen. In some 10 minutes you will see that the color of the tattoo is restored as before the treatment. However, this tattoo color will be somewhat lighter. Then you will see the skin all around the tattoo reddening and swelling a bit more. These changes form part of the normal process of laser tattoo removal taking into consideration that your skin tissues are living and will, therefore, react to any action on it.

  • Is there any scarring left after laser tattoo removal?
Unlike other treatment methods, laser treatments don't cut or burn the skin surface. Therefore, the results cause practically no permanent scar tissue. However, some loss of pigment (hypo-pigmentation) or excess pigment (hyperpigmentation) of the treated area may occur after completion of a course of treatment. This will normally be expected to fade after 6 months after which, normal skin coloring and texture should be regenerated. For some people these changes may be permanent. In this minimal number of cases, the patient may further have microdermabrasion or fractional laser treatment (FLT) or intense pulsed light treatment (IPL) or low-level (soft) laser treatment done as per indications in order to remove all abnormal signs on the skin surface.

  • How long will the redness and swelling hold after a laser tattoo removal procedure?
The redness and the swelling will start decreasing day by day and will normally disappear completely in a week's time.

  • Which precautions should I take?
After the laser tattoo removal treatment, you should take care to keep the treated skin area clean and dry (avoid water on this area) and use the ointment and/or any other medication as prescribed to you by your doctor. Further, you should avoid sunlight on this zone as well as direct heating due to closeness to any heat source, e.g. avoid stoves, ovens, grills, furnaces, etc. Also, avoid eating spicy food and avoid chilly and hot sauces.

  • How much can I expect to pay for a session of laser removal of a tattoo?
Cost of a laser treatment session for removal of a tattoo varies widely, mostly depending on the size of the tattoo. Generally, one session of laser tattoo removal may cost as from 2,000 Mauritian rupees to 10,000 Mauritian rupees or more.
