CHEMICAL PEELS
Chemical peeling is the application of one or more exfoliating agents to the skin to produce controlled partial-thickness ablation.
The agent, usually an acid solution, removes varying amounts of epidermis and, depending on its strength, affects dermal collagen. Partial thickness wounds heal by second intention. Wound repair consists of epidermal regeneration by migration of adnexal structures or when peeling is apllied, punctual regeneration is from adjacent epithelium. Replacement of new connective tissue results in skin rejuvenation, including improvement in skin color and texture and removal of actinically related growths.
